How is the outside front brake pad on a 01 buick lasaber held on?

I am changing the front brakes on a 01 buick lasaber and I don't see any %26quot;clips%26quot; that hold the outside brake pad into positon. Does it just stay on due to pressure or am I missing something? How is the outside front brake pad on a 01 buick lasaber held on?Compare to the other wheel that you haven't taken the old pads off yet, or have you? They can't move up because of the top metal of the caliper and they can't move too far in or out because of the rotor and the outside of the caliper. There may be tangs on them to hold them otherwise. The first website below clearly shows big clips holding the outside pad.

    1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?

how hard is it to change the front brakes on a 97 cavalier? can someone tell me how to do it? thanks1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?jeesh, just when I thought everything was ok.

No, do NOT open the bleeders when pushing the calipers back. You have like good answers here that tell you step by step how to do this. Not one of them say to open the bleeder.

The brake fluid is a closed system, there is no dirt in it. and the caliphers have boots that sit in a ring around the pistons. No way can dirt get into the system. I would stand by and keep my shut on this one. but seeings as you have not done something like this before, the last thing you need is to do something completely uncalled for because some moron is trying to be something he is not by giving you bad advice!

If you open the bleeders, that opens a whole nother process and you will then have to bleed the brakes. Follow the others instructions here and do NOT open those bleeders.

You do see the others saying %26quot;pump the brake pedal when done reinstalling everything.%26quot; Thats because the calipers will be fully retracted and you need to pump them to get the pistons back out and tight against the wheel. Otherwise, you start up and drive off and hit the brake for the first time and its good night Irene cause there wont be any brakes!!!1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?Cake. Jack the car up. Pop off a front wheel. Undo the caliper hardware to the pads. Take out the old ones. Compress the brake cylinder with a c-clamp. Pop in the new pads. Reassemble the hardware. Put back the wheel. Repeat on the other side.1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?I haven't hit that particular model but most GM calipers are bolted on as are most newer Fords. Some of the older ones were held with a wedge but haven't seen that in a while. Some you just have to look a bit closer and have the right size %26quot;Torx%26quot; driver to fit the bolt.1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?Like Mustang said , and I do believe it's a torx or T25 size I have used a hex wrench away from the shop1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?After ching the tye pads you will need to pump brake peddle up untill you have a hard peddle1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?Jack.

Repair manual. $201997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?good info so for, your cavalier takes a 3/8th Allen wrench to take the caliper off, once you have the bolts out you will have to use a screw driver to pry the caliper together just a little so it will come off.. once you compress the caliper back together install the new pads and put it all back together.. after you have finished both sides and have the car back on the ground, BE SURE TO PUMP THE BREAKS BE FOR YOU DRIVE IT, PLEASE. don't want to see anyone getting hurt.. oh, make sure you chalk the wheels and use jack stands or at least some kind of block to keep the car from falling on you.. been there, done that, not fun!!!1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?Nobody has mentioned to open the bleeder screws while compressing the piston back, if you dont you risk pushing all that dirt back into the abs system and master cylinder, which could cost thousands. Also when the bolts are out, and they are 3/8%26quot; (Cavaliers never used torex) lubricate the rubber where the bolts go through with ceramlube so the caliper can slide properly. After you are done, take the master cylinder cap off, open the bleeders one at a time and let it gravity bleed for a second, then torque the wheel to 80 lbs. Also, make sure you have the rotors resurfaced unless you want it to squeak and or pulsate and DONT use Autozone pads.1997 Chevy Cavalier changing brakes...?here is how its done Cyndy, if you have never done anything like this before it looks confusing, good luck, any questions just ask http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/090…

Is there an online site to show and tell me how to change the front brake pads on my 2002 Chevy S10?

It is pretty simple dude, two bolts take the caliper off, remove old pads, install new pads, lubricate the caliper slides (rubber gromets in the caliper) bolt on, bend the tabs down so they dont rattle, and poof you are done. 3/8%26quot; allen socket you need and a hammer. Make sure you torque the wheels to 80 lbs afterwards, dont let a shop ever use an impact gun on your wheels with a regular socket, you can always tell thats an idiotic shop with so called mechanics that know nothing about cars, I bet dodgeman doesn't even own a set or torque sticks, dude probably doesn't even know what they are, those hillbillies just tighten your 4000.00 tires down with an 'impact gun'Is there an online site to show and tell me how to change the front brake pads on my 2002 Chevy S10?I am not sure about website, but you can purchase the Chilton's manual for your truck. Brake pads are a simple replacement, its the shoes for drum brakes that cause a lot of problems.

the biggest things to remember about changing pads are: with changing only the pads, do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, or the brake line. second, make sure you compress the caliper once the old pads are off. there are only two bolts holding the caliper in place and the pads clip to the caliper. the replacement pads will only go onto the caliper (and stay) the way they were intended. Is there an online site to show and tell me how to change the front brake pads on my 2002 Chevy S10?get a haynes book for your year and make from any auto zone.it gives detailed step by step instructions and close up pictures. Is there an online site to show and tell me how to change the front brake pads on my 2002 Chevy S10?Mark F is totally correct. Proper torquing (80 ft-lbs) is very important. Many %26quot;mechanics%26quot; don't know or care, because they weren't trained properly. Improperly torqued lug nuts will result in warped rotors, especially for cars and trucks with low torque applications. I have had this experience, and torque the nuts myself after anyone ever touches them. I have always found that they were overtorqued and were very difficult to loosen, even with my corded impact wrench. Is there an online site to show and tell me how to change the front brake pads on my 2002 Chevy S10?yes i own a good set of them and use them a lot, most of his procedure is right except if it has disc, anti lock brakes on it you,ll want to loosen the bleeders up on the back of the caliper, you don't want to push fluid back into the system on anti lock brakes, this can cause one or more too grab sometimes, other wise he got the procedure fairly right, don't apply too much grease on the pins though it can get on the new pads, and cause problems, good luck with it.

How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan?

Once you get the calipers off, the rotor should pull right off on that one I think. It's possible the caliper mounting bracket might prevent that, in which case that would have to be taken off too. If this is the first time they've ever been off, there may be some thin washer-like things on a couple of the studs that you can just break off and throw away. If you're putting brand new rotors on, use some brake cleaner and clean paper towels to wipe off the anti-rust coating that come on them before you put them on.

    Here's the rest for doing the pads;

Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir until the reservoir is approximately 1 / 2 full. Discard the removed fluid.

Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Remove the front wheels.

    Remove or disconnect the following:

Front brake caliper guide pin bolts

Brake caliper by slowly sliding it up and off the adapter and brake rotor. Support the caliper out of the way with a strong piece of wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose or damage to the brake hose will result.

Compress the caliper piston into the bore using a C-clamp. Insert a suitable piece of wood between the C-clamp and caliper piston to protect the piston.

Outboard disc brake pad from the caliper by prying the brake pad retaining clip over the raised area on the caliper. Slide the brake pad down and off the caliper.

Inboard disc brake pad from the caliper by pulling the brake pad away from the caliper piston until the retaining clip on the pad is free from the caliper piston cavity

    To install:

Be sure the caliper piston has been completely retracted into the piston bore of the caliper assembly. This is required when installing the brake caliper equipped with new brake pads.

If equipped, remove the protective paper from the noise suppression gaskets on the new disc brake pads.

    Install or connect the following:

New inboard disc brake pad into the caliper piston by pressing the pad firmly into the cavity of the caliper piston. Be sure the new inboard brake pad is seated squarely against the face of the brake caliper piston.

Outboard disc brake pad by sliding it onto the caliper assembly

Brake caliper assembly over the brake rotor and onto the steering knuckle adapter

Caliper guide pin bolts and torque to: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm) on 2002-04 models or 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm) on 2005 models

Apply the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained.

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary. Road-test the vehicle.

    And here's a picture of the caliper, with names of all the parts;

http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan? If you don't know how to do it, let a professional do it. It is your brakes a major safety item. I just don't want to see anyone get hurt because they don't know what they are doing. How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan?Brakes are extremely easy to do yourself. It's just barely more than jacking the car up and taking off a few bolts. If you don't disconnect the hose from the caliper you won't even have to bleed the brakes, not that it's that hard either though.

But, asking how to do it online isn't really a great option, it's just a few too many steps to accurately spell out, you certainly don't want to miss any of the steps. Go pick up a haynes manual at any repair shop, it'll be plenty thorough enough to do it yourself. If you've never done it before it'll probably take two hours. Once you've done it once you should be able to do it in 45 minutes.

Really, how hard is it to change my front brake pads?

'02 chevy prizm. it's from mn where of course things are somewhat rusted up under there. and i don't know how to bleed the brakes. i only have myself to work withReally, how hard is it to change my front brake pads?you don't need to bleed the brakes unless there is already air in the lines and it probably isn't. Every car has a different setup but basically there will be 2 bolts or 2 pins or something holding the brake caliber on and that's all you have to do is take the wheel off and take your time look around and find what is holding your caliber on. When you find it that will determine what you need to remove the caliber and once you do that the brake pads are just slotted in the caliber. Remove one at a time taking note of its position so you can position the new pad in the same place and same way you took out the old one. Then just put the caliber back in place and reconnect it. No bleeding is needed get in the car start it up depress your brake pedal it will go all the way to the floor which is ok then release and then hit it again and you will have brakes.Really, how hard is it to change my front brake pads?I didn't know that %26quot;flying cars%26quot; needed brake pads.. haha, just kidding (ask your folks if you don't get the joke) Anyway, go to an auto parts store and buy a manual for your car - they have complete instructions %26amp; photos to help you...not that difficult, but the book will help a lot :}Really, how hard is it to change my front brake pads?Get a chilton's manual.

Changing pads is EASY. and you don't need to bleed the brake when you are done.

Just remember to have a big C-clamp handy to compress the piston on the caliper in order to fit it over the new pads.Really, how hard is it to change my front brake pads?In theory it should be an easy job, in practice it always takes longer than expected especially if you are dealing with rust. You should be able to change the pads without having to bleed the system as you won't be letting any air into the system. Get a manual for the car and it will give you easy to follow instructions.

Note that if you do need to bleed the brakes for any reason then its normally a two person job. One inside the car pressing the brake pedal and the other controlling the bleed valve on the brake calipers. Following the correct sequence is important - make sure that you read the manual.Really, how hard is it to change my front brake pads?all you need is a set of locking pliars.. your just going to sqeeze calipers (the piston) until their is enough room to install the new pads and in the old ones places.. then your going to put the calipers back on where you unbolted them from.. it's a 30 minute job..

so you need a set of grip-locks, air wrench(preferably although any wrech set will work), new brake pads, and a little bit of muscle

How to change rear brakes\rotors on 2002 chevy trailblazer?

Well I changed the front with no problems and it has helped allot. But I still hear allot of squealing from the rear and even sounds like a pad or something is dragging. I took a quick look without taking the wheel off and it looks really similar to the front. Being a 4wd would this be the case? Anything special? I will see if the auto place has a manual on this vehicle, but I do not think so as I looked online and it stops at 2000.

Thanks againHow to change rear brakes\rotors on 2002 chevy trailblazer? The trailblazer is straight forward. It's the identical method like the front, with the exception that it used the inside hub of the rotor as the drum for the parking brake. Take off the 2 caliper bolts and slide the caliper off the rotor. Grab the rotor and slide it off. There is no bridge to remove. The caliper piston is reset by compressing it, like the fronts. If you are going to replace the pads, it would be a good idea to replace the park brake shoes and hold down hardware as well.

i see a huge nut, but i don't know if i have to take it out or not....helpHow do i change the front brake discs on a 94 honda accord?Yes, the big nut does have to come off and the whole spindle so you can press the hub out. The breaks are a B!T@# to change on Accords. How do i change the front brake discs on a 94 honda accord?First take out the axles. Do this by undoing the lower ball joint and the 17mm bolt that holds the strut to the lower control arm .

I'm assuming you can get the caliper apart. Afetr the axle is removed, you will see 4 10mm 12 point bolts. Unscrew these a little at a time and use a socket with extension and hit it with a hammer as hard as you can , going around in circles.

The disc is bolted to the bearing from the back, so you have to press out the bearing and the3 disk and then seperate them.

Soak around the bearing with liquid wrench or WD-40 to help, they are usually rusted in there.

    Good luck!

By the way, you need to take off that nut to get the axle out. (yes, the big one, and it needs to come off.) Do not pull it out of the trans, use a prybar !!!!How do i change the front brake discs on a 94 honda accord? If I am not mistaken , if you are just changing pads all you have to do is remove the caliper and use C clamp to push the piston back inside . If you are taking the rotor off see if you have small scews around the face of it and that should do it . If not I would ask a mechanic or even an auo parts store can help you with that . But I think the Big nut you are talkining about is bearings. Generally you need to clamp the rotor to compress the cylinders back into the rotors to make room for R %26amp; R. In most modern cars, you remove the retaining pins, and the old pads will slide right out. Don't change one side though, DO BOTH SIDES.How to change the brake pads in our 1995 geo prism? If you in doubt- best thing is take it to the shop only cost $60 or so for labor and partsHow to change the brake pads in our 1995 geo prism?Jesus christ it ain't rocket science. Take of the tire, remove pads, replace pads, put the tire back on. Wow I've been changing pads and rotors since i was ten.How to change the brake pads in our 1995 geo prism?well in fact its really simple, you just need the tools,

the brakes have 2 main bolts, take them off and they should be like 5 inches long they connect the 2 pieces that connect and preasure the pads in, then when pads are changed you need at least a big C-Clamp to pinch in the brake pistons, just check out the site it probably be better than my simple explanation

How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?

Whats with this people wanting to change my brake disc of a 2 year car ?

I have a Toyota and I change the brake this like one time, and it have 14 years (2002)

I understood that the brake disc deteriorate if you dont change your brakes pads on time, when is needed

I have only change my brake pads on time and was on time, as soon as the light sensor went off, I change the pads

Now the sensor is on and I went where I bought the car to buy my pads but it seems they want me to change both front brake discs, so I went to another recognize BMW part shop and they told me I need to change the four of them!

I want second opinion on this cause I dont think its that neccesary or it deteriorate that fast

With your opinion I'll check again in a particular mechanics and see if Im a need of new brake disc

Thanks in advanceHow come I have to change my BMW brake disc already? You really must not have driving your Toyota that much or did much braking in that vehicle, or your driving habits have changed with the BMW over the Toyota.

My wife's 2003 Corolla needs a brake job about every 18 months. She drives in very hilly areas and applies her brakes more frequently.

I drive a 2004 Pontiac Vibe (the same as a Toyota Corolla with a different upper shell). Have not had to replace the brakes yet and last inspection still had 50% of my brake pad left.

Brake pad replacement depends on your driving habits and braking frequency. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion. (It rarely ever does), but not sure how you got 14 years on a single set of brake pads unless you didn't drive that much.

Ok, your talking about the disk rotors, I misunderstood your question. These days manufactures do make rotors out of cheaper metals to minimize brake noise. You can purchase rotors made from higher quality metals that last longer from an auto parts store. Just ask them for the higher quality rotors.

Most manufacturer's have a minimum thickness that is recommended for the rotors as well. These days they don't make rotors as thick to reduce weight and allow for better cooling of the brake area. This unfortunately amounts to having to change the rotors a bit more frequently. From personal experience this is typically every other brake job for the original OEM brake rotors. (ie you can get them turned(machined) once, but typically not twice)

  • How easy is it to change the front brake discs on a Daewoo laganza.?

It will be like changing the brake discs on any other car. If you are a competent mechanic you will have no problem. If you are driving a Daewoo...You better hire it done. To save money, buy your own parts from an auto parts store. Tell your mechanic that you were going to install it yourself but you dont have the time. Then you just pay for labor and you save the Parts Markup over retail by the mechanic. He wont warranty the parts, but brake part failure is Very Rare. Good luck!

If you dont feel comfortable buying your own parts, call a parts store for retail prices and make sure your mechanic does not charge higher than retail. You should not get his Mechanics Discount when buying parts, but you should not have to pay more than retail either.

Maybe around $90 to $150 for pads. Of course, those estimates vary depending on the price markup and the brand that is used for these parts.

So, for parts you have, let's say; around $120. Most shops charge in the $50-$75/hour labor range. Let's go with something in the middle; $60/hour.

The oil change will take about 1/2 hours ($30 labor). The pads shouldn't take much more than one hour ($60).

So, add that up. $120 parts plus $90 labor gives up a bill of about $210.

Both are pretty easy to do yourself. A few internet searches should provide you with some good helpful hints on doing the job yourself.

In most cases it is fairly easy. How long does it take to change the front brake pads on a front wheel drive car?For the typical back yard mechanic like me, you've got extra time to jack up the wheels and put jack stands under the frame for safety. Then you need the right wrench to remove the caliper bolts which may require a breaker bar to get good leverage on the bolt in many cases. The front caliper pistons can be pushed in with a big C clamp, but rear calipers often need a special tool to turn the caliper back in with. Taking care to get the new pads into the caliper like the old pads you took out and remounting the caliper ends up taking about 3 hours for me and that doesn't count going to get the new pads or cleaning up the tools etc. Rear drum brakes would take longer even if you've done them before (about double the time for me). Of course you may need to take your rotors in to be machined or buy new rotors and install them in some cases.

Single-piston calipers of various sizes were used from 1997-99. For the 2000 model year a twin-piston caliper was used.

    1. Clean the area around the master cylinder reservoir and filler cap(s).

    2. Remove the filler cap(s) and siphon off about 25 percent of the fluid. This is to prevent overflow as the piston is pushed into the caliper. Fitting new pads will cause a rise in the fluid level.

    3. Raise and support the vehicle.

    4. Remove the wheel.

    5. Pry the piston side pad away from the rotor with a tool which won't scratch the rotor surface.

    6. Remove the caliper mounting bolts.

    7. Remove the caliper and brake pads from the rotor. Use a plastic mallet to tap it free, if necessary.

    8. Pry out the outboard brake pad.

    9. Remove the inboard shoe by tilting the pad outward until the retainer spring is clear of the caliper piston.

    10. Remove the anti-rattle springs, if fitted (2000 models).

    NOTE

The anti-rattle springs are not interchangeable.

    11. Support the caliper with a wire or twine: Do NOT allow it to hang by the hose.

    NOTE

Do NOT apply the brake pedal with the caliper off the rotor. Use a soft wedge (such as a piece of wood) to hold the pads apart if the caliper is to be off the rotor for any length of time.

    To install:

    12. Clean the caliper and steering knuckle slide surfaces with a wire brush. Then lubricate the surfaces with a thin coat of high temperature grease.

    13. On 1997-99 Rams, lubricate the caliper mounting bolts, collars, bushings and bores with silicone grease.

    14. Lubricate and install the anti-rattle springs (2000 models).

    15. Install the inboard shoe. Be sure the retainer spring is firmly seated in the caliper piston.

    16. Insert the outboard shoe in the caliper.

    17. Degrease the rotor with a safe solvent.

    18. Push the piston(s) in far enough to allow the pads to clear the rotor. This can be done by hand or with a special tool: several types are available.

    19. Install the caliper and rotor assembly. Be sure the caliper is seated flush on the mounting arm surfaces.

    20. Start the mounting bolts by hand to prevent crossthreading. Tighten the bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (51 Nm) on 1997-99 models, or to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm) on 2000 models.

    21. Install the wheel.

    22. Apply the brake several times to seat the pads.

    23. Check the brake fluid level at the master cylinder reservoir and add if necessary. How do i change the front brake pads on 2000 dodge 2500 truck?chaging brak epads on any cart or truck pretty much th esame real easy once you know how brake system work you can do any so just type into search box

    Leaving the old pads installed...

Use a flat blade screwdriver between old pads and gently push/pry the pistons back to give clearance for the new pads to fit over the caliper. Leaving the old pads in and pushing against them assures you dont damage anything and gives a solid surface to return the pistons back to the resting position.

The brake fluid will be forced back into the master cylinder/ be sure it does not become overfull.(remove it's cover)

Now remove the lock clip and pin or pins that support the old pads and remove them.

I have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier... The front brakes have recently started squeaking...?

As stated above, I have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier, It is a four door, front wheel drive.. There is a squeaking that occurs when turning to the right, and I am assuming it is from the front brakes. Would rather change the brakes myself, than pay a load of cash to have a shop do it, as I am told it is an easy process. Does someone have a walkthru on how to change the front brakes, or a link to a site with a walkthrough on information. I am not well learned in car mechanics etc. so any help would be great,I have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier... The front brakes have recently started squeaking...?its not that hard to do actually. if you had a book like a chiltons manual for your car that would be the best way to learn as for me trying to tell you step by step would be hard..

you know as a matter of fact your local library will carry books like that.. just go and check one out..

also as far as tools go just the basic wrenches like open end wrenches, a jack and also be sure to block the back tires with the E brake on.. also but blocks under the car as to be more carefull..

another thing you might wanna look at too is the brake fluid level.. once your brakes wear down the fluid level goes down too because the caliper has to move further to grasp the rotor..

yeah also might wanna chesk the rotor for flatness .. if its worn out have it turned or get a new one..

anyways that a little bit on it, if you have questions you can Im me on yahoo at fat85crxzcI have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier... How to change the brakes on 01' Chevy Lumina?

I'm need to change just the front brake pads on a 2001 Chevy Lumina, and I have now idea what I'm doing so I'm asking for your guidance.

If you have any website links that you think would be helpful please post.

Thanks in advance! How to change the brakes on 01' Chevy Lumina?1.put a piece of wood under the rear tire, %26lt;will prevent car from rolling back%26gt; 2.open the hood remove the cap on the master cylinder if low on oil do not refill, low fluid is a indication or worn out brakes since its a sealed system unless there is a leak you should never have to replace fluid.3.jack up front end either as a whole or one side at a time use a jack stand under the frame rail, lower car onto jack stand.4. pull the wheel off.5 loosen the caliper bolts normally this is a large hex bolt

remove calipers remove pads look at old pads for un even wear or burns

or cracks indication for bad calipers should be even wear on both pads

check the rotor which is what the wheel bolts too, look for blue-ing

or small cracks grooves etc if you find any replace the caliper or have them turned at a machine shop average price in my state 25 dollars a wheel some times and some places are cheaper to buy new ones get a can of brake cleaner at a parts store you'll need to use specific cleaners other wise there might be a residue and you won't stop,6 get a rag and large pair of channel locks put rag over piston in caliper slowly compress with the master cylinder cap off this should be easy

you do not need to bleed brakes that's only when you crack open a Zerk fitting and we haven't done that here, once piston is compressed all the way into the caliper your ready for new pads, first go wash your hands grease is a brake system worst nightmare most disk brakes come with a little tube of glue called anti chatter glue this is applied to the back of the pads let that sit a minute to set then install the new pads carefully put caliper back onto rotor and re bolt down do a visual check to make sure you did not disconnect anything else.

then put the wheel back on that side is done do the same for the other wheel. with all that said and done now you know how to change the brakes on every car with disk brakes they are all the same type system the only thing that varies is to bolts holding the calipers

and the calipers themselves rotors are rotors all the same, with that being done pretty simple kind of makes you wonder why it costs 400 dollars to do a brake job.

    hope this helps

Changing brakes is a relatively easy job, but you have to look at your initial start up costs.

    1. Need a good set of Jack Stands! Never work on a vehicle that is off the ground with out them! $20

    2. Good set of tools. Don't get cheap tools, they only lend themselves to hurting yourself. You can get an inexpensive Craftsman ratchet and socket set at Sears for $50

    3. A large C-Clamp. Again I go with craftsman. $30

    4. I like having a hydraulic jack, but you can use the jack that comes with the car. $25.

    5. Brake Pads typically $20-$30 (Get the lifetime wear warranty ones from autozone and it will be the last set of pads you purchase if you don't go metal to metal. They don't honor the warranty if you go metal to metal)

    6. I would advise turning the rotors at a machine shop or auto parts store. Typically $20 ($10 per rotor is pretty standard)

So your initial start up costs is approximately for the first brake job. $175

Each additional time you do the brakes on that vehicle yourself will cost you only $20 (the cost to get the rotors turned).

Can definitely save you money in the long run!

However if you don't know what you are doing. Killing your self in an accident or hitting something/someone is never worth it.Is It Cheaper to change my front brake pads or pay someone to do it?Doing anything yourself is always a tradeoff. Yes, it's probably less expensive, tho not as much as you might expect. That's not figuring in your time. A mechanic can probably do the job in under an hour. How much time are you willing to spend? If you've never done it before, it might take you an entire day.

Then too, there's the cost of tools if you don't have the proper ones for your car.

And, there's the issue of liability. If you do the job and don't do it properly, there's no one to blame but yourself. Your insurance company might look at it that way too if you get in an accident.

I've done it a few times and, for me, it's not worth the aggravation. Of course, if you like to work on cars, that's another consideration. Is It Cheaper to change my front brake pads or pay someone to do it?...and you magically have a brake lathe hiding around in your garage to turn your rotors?? go to a repair shop! if your brakes fail because you wanted to save $20, it's not just you you're endangering... it's everyone else on the road as well. good luck!Is It Cheaper to change my front brake pads or pay someone to do it?I agree with all on the opinion that it is cheaper to do your self if you have the tools and knowledge. However being a certified mechanic, I advise you to take it to a repair shop or a person who knows what to do. There is much more to a brake system than just swapping pads and having the rotors machined. If you have an ABS system, it could get damaged if you don't do it right. I have seen several minor $150 brake jobs turn into $500-$2000 jobs because of not doing it correctly.

  • How to change cs camry 1989 front brakes??

any idea of how to change brake pads on this type of car?How to change cs camry 1989 front brakes??front brake pads are the easiest to do. I simply jack it up put stands in place for safety. pull the wheels, install a 5/16's vacuum hose on the bleader nipple put the other end of the hose in a clear glass container with aprx 1/3 full of brake fluid in the bottom . then i open the bleader valve and gently compress the pad s toward the inside to free up the calipers from the rotors. I close the valve , remove the bolts holding the caliper to the support arms, remove the caliper and tie it up to keep it secured and not pulling on the flex line. the pads are held in by spring metal clips ans simply slip away from the rotor direction the face. now I use an old brake pad against the caliper piston and I use a clamp , open that bleeder valve again and cmpress the pistons till they are flush to the caliper housing. I examine the rotors for ridges but prefer to turn them for at least a clean up 10 thousand's. this insure smooth stopping. install the new pads with disc quiet applied to the backs of the pads where the dirt was not on the old pads and a little anti seaze where the pads set on the spring metal. reinstall the calipers and torque the bolts that hold the caliper on. top the fluid in the master and blead the brakes starting on the wheel furthest from the master (passenger side front) then the drivers front. if done right you have good smooth brakes. if wrong you have spoungy brakes. How to change cs camry 1989 front brakes??http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/090

I'm pretty good at changing rotors and front brakes but I've never bothered with the drums. There are plenty of sites that teach you how to do the front brakes, what about drum brakes?

good luckAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?using jack stands get both drums off. this is sometimes the hardest part. then do one side at a time so you can look at the other side to see how it goes when you can't remember. After the drums are off it is a 2 minute job on some cars, 2 hour on others. Brake spring tools are nice to have but not necessary. Check the hydraulic cylinders as they are prone to leaking when new shoes are installed. They are pushed back up into their bore where rust will be if the car is old and water has made it into the brake fluid. Do not try to get by without having the drums turned or replaced unless you really didn't care about the brakes anyway.Any good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?drums are a pain in the ***...but they at the same time are simple its just a matter of remembering where the springs and adjusting the adjuster right. just remember how you took them off and youll be fine putting them back on..there isnt really a universal way to take them off because all drum setups are different...just take a picture when you take the drum off so you can see how they went or do 1 side at a time and youll be able to see how the other side wentAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?SAME IDEA AS FRONT. JUST REMEMBER TO LEAVE E BRAKE OFF. There is an adjustment on the inside of the drum you acces through a hole on the side to loosen your shoes. Its pretty much a gear . I just use a screwdriver to turn it until it frees up the drums. sometimes ya gotta bang on drums to get them offAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?Best to get a manual as there are specific needs for serviceing emergency barkes (attachec) and adkusting them that make them more complicated than disc brakes...and you may need some spring tools and an adjusting toolAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?Been a while since i've done a drum but easy enough, just make sure the cylinder is not leaking when you put it back together.Any good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?znet.com supported by autozone and alldata repiar servicesAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes? What kind of vehicle do you own? How do I change the front brake pads on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd truck w a 5.7l engine?

looking for info on how to change the front (rear too !)brake pads on my 2003 dodge 2500 ram 2wd truck w 5.7L engine.

Also, my radio stopped working completely the fuses are fine how would i test the amp or replace it if necessary? How do I change the front brake pads on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd truck w a 5.7l engine?Changing breaks is simple. Please read this in it entirety before trying.

First you need to assess if you have warped rotors. If while breaking the vehicle surges under the pressure of the standard breaking not hard breaking then you have a warped rotor. You have to either remove them and take them to a local shop and have them turned or replace them all together. If you have one warped rotor it is best to have them both turned as pinpointing which one is warped is next to impossible.

Buy a Break Piston Compressor from your local Automobile Shop. Provided a link on what it looks like. While you are there buy the pads. You will want to get the premium or ceramic pads as they will last longer.

Now be prepared to get dirty.

Let the vehicle set for one hour if you just came back from the shop to have the breaks cooled down properly.

Open the hood and loosen the cap for the break reservoir. Do not add more fluid at this time. While performing this break replacement break fluid may spill out so loosely wrapping a rag around the break reservoir will catch most of it. DO NOT REUSE THE FLUID YOU CATCH AND PUT BACK IN THE SYSTEM.

Jack up the vehicle and place a jack stand under the control arm. That is for safety in case the jack fails.

Remove the tire and set aside.

Locate the caliper with the break pads in place.

Open the box that has the new pads. Examine the pads to make sure that you purchased the correct pads by comparing them while they are still on the vehicle. Pads have a metal side and a rough material side to them. After verifying that everything looks the same remove the two bolts that are on the back of the caliper. They are not the large 15/16 bolts they are probably 10mm or 12mm bolts.

Once they are removed, remove the caliper by sliding it forward from the top to the front of the vehicle and lift up. You can set the caliper on top of the rotor while working. DO NOT REMOVE THE BREAK LINE AS DOING SO WILL REQUIRE YOU TO HAVE TO BLEED THE SYSTEM.

Remove the outer pad make note of how you take it out and how it was positioned in the caliper. You may need a screwdriver to help release the clips from the caliper. Do not bend them.

Now leaving the inner pad in place use the piston compression tool and push the piston further into its cylinder. Make sure that you place the tool in the center of the piston and apply Even pressure until it bottoms out. You will know that because you cannot turn it anymore. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

Open the box that contains the new pads. Locate the Inner pad and remove the inner pad from the caliper and replace it with the new one. Now put the outer pad in place. Return the caliper to its correct position back on the the rotor assembly and insert and replace the bolts. They should be torqued to 10 to 15 ft pounds no more. All vehicles are different so you may want to ask for the torque specifications on your model from the local repair shop.

Replace the tire and perform that same steps on the other side.

After you are finished make sure to tighten the cap for the Break reservoir and close the hood. Start the vehicle and slowly pump the breaks till they feel normal. Test drive it a short distance going slow. No more than 15 mph and test the breaks again. Works great.

Now go clean up you terrible. How do I change the front brake pads on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd truck w a 5.7l engine? If you dont know how to change your own brakes and have to ask on here how to change them. I would take it to a shop you dont want to mess the brakes up or anything in general in your motor.

    Change brakes?

i change my front brakes every30-35k, how often will i be needing to change my rear drum brakes on a 4x2 truck.Change brakes? The rear drum brakes last about twice as long.Change brakes?i dont change mine i just tighten them. they should be good for 100k as long as you tighten them.Change brakes?I have never changed or tightened rear brakes on any vehicle. 70% of your braking power comes from the front brakes, so rear brakes only need to be changed if they are completely worn out.Change brakes? When you change the front brakes, inspect the rear brakes as well for wear and cracks on the drum. Most of your stopping ability is provided by the front breaks so the rears do not get as much wear. BTW Drum brakes auto adjust by themselves.Change brakes?never trust the auto adjusters, yup shoes do usually last twice as long as front pads, and it wouldn't hurt to re-adjust them every 20,000 km it's not hard to do, you should notice your brake peddle feel better when the rear shoes are adjusted not to mention the vehicle will stop better, good luck.

How to change front brake pads on a 2004 ford focus?

It is very simple to change the brake pads on a ford focus. You will need a hex key set and something for leverage(metal pipe works well).

Open the hood and take off the cap for the brake fluid. Take off the wheel and there are two rubber pieces with plastic caps in the tops of them, one on top of the caliper and one on the bottom of the caliper. If you remove the plastic caps there is a hex bolt under each of them. Take those bolts out with the hex key and pipe for leverage.

Once you do this you will be able to take the caliper off of the bracket holding it over the rotor. When you have the caliper off you will be able to take the outside pad off (just release the clip with a screwdriver and push it in). After that take a C-Clamp and while the inside pad is still on Compress the caliper piston back to its lowest setting. After this remove the inside pad, it should have a clip on the back of it which fits inside of the hollow caliper piston. From here you should be able to reverse the steps and put everything back on. Just make sure that you use the spacers/squealer plates and use the grease from the brake pads on the outside of the pads to reduce noise.

After one side is complete, put everything back together and lower the car and go inside the car and slowly pump the brakes until you have good pressure than complete the other side. After you finish the other side, make sure to put the cap back on the brake fluid and you should be ready to go.

How do I change the front brake pads on a KF Ford Laser?

I want to know if there is anything to be careful of before my partner changes the brake pads on our car.How do I change the front brake pads on a KF Ford Laser?Well first off don't use just a jack also use jack stands ive seen many people

just jack up a car with a floor jack then get under it and get crushed and or killed

seen them both make sure your partner uses jack stands which are pretty cheap

compared to your life, as for the brakes themselves simple to replace first off

you will need to open master cylinder if the fluid is low don't fill it generally low fluid means worn brakes unbolt calipers which is the housing that holds the pads in the housing is a piston with a rubber gasket you will be to get a piston

compressor tool or large pair of channel locks and compress the piston all the way back in other wise your going to be hard pressed to get new pads in as you compress the piston the fluid level should rise back to full mark brakes are a sealed system if there was a leak brakes won't work well brake pedal will just slowly hit the floor boards when compressing pistons use rags

on the channel locks teeth so you don't poke a hole in the gaskets around the pistons put the new pads in re bolt caliper do the same on the other side

when your doing the brakes you want to look at the rotor make sure its smooth also you can look at the old pads them selves if one pad is more worn

the the other the calipers may need replacing make sure you buy a can of brake cleaner that way you can wipe any grease off the rotors grease and brakes don't mix nor will you stop, also if your rotors have lots of grooves

they will need to be replaced its not totally critical but brakes will last half the time than normally, also check fluid level once both brakes are replaced top off if needed its not totally critical to replace worn calipers or rotors but the new pad won't last long if you don't as far as brakes its always best to replace worn out calipers ie uneven wear or bad rotors with lots of grooves

you can take your rotors in to be turned meaning that a shop or machine shop puts on a lath and cuts the grooves out the problem with this is heating and cooling also any hair line cracks replace the rotors they will fail you looking for discoloration etc make sure you use cleaner specific to brakes

otherwise it will leave a chemical film and you may not stop and also wear eye protection

    hope this helps

LrHow do I change the front brake pads on a KF Ford Laser?Thank you! This is very informative- it will help a lot. And we will definitely use jack stands! Cheers.
