How to remove brakes on bike?
Okay so I need some help, I want to remove the front brakes on my bike how do you do this? Any video recomandations? Also what are some tires or something that i can use to make my bike lighter? and if I buy tires or something will the bike store change them for me and will they change handlebars and etc.?How to remove brakes on bike? What kind of brakes? Linear-pull (V-brakes)? Cantilever? Disc?

(Cantis would use the same procedure.)How to remove brakes on bike? What kind of bike are you using? Don't worry about the weight of the tires as much as you worry about the size. For removing breaks, its pretty simple in general, you just need the right screw driver and hex wrench.
Bike shops are usually super helpful so just go to them with questions you have, and they'll put you on the right track. How to remove brakes on bike?Typically you need a hexwrench sized correctly for your bicycle parts. Each brake would be connected by one bolt and you'd swap it out with that. How to remove brakes on bike?u have 2 like loose the silver thing where that wire is connected and use a screw driver to remove everything im not sure but thats how i did it 2 mine cuz ma brake wuz messed up.

The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?
Apparently I have 5% left, but they're not squeaking or grinding in any way- how soon should I be worried about making this change? The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home? You can do a brake job by yourself.
The process is pretty much the same for all vehciles. I've been refering people to this web site for Instructions on how to change brakes. Rob gives a good illustrations, and his web sit can be found here:
http://www.********.com/lessons/brakesho
Warning:
1. I would definitely recommend jack stands under a car, never do a brake job with just the car jack.
2. Always use a fixed size wrench, never use a cresent wrench as illustrated by Rob
3. Otherwise his instructions are pretty well written and can be found here.
Oh and he's replacing brake pads, not shoes as he has incorrectly called them from time to time. Shoe are for drum brakes, pads are for disk brakes.
Also it is recommended to get the rotor's thickness measured (to ensure they are not too thin) and resurfaced for best braking.
These instructions are of course for front brakes. The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?It isn't very hard to do but if you don't have any mechanical experience, then, i would let the profesionals do it. rather be safe then sorryThe front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?Listen for a high-pitched squeal...that's the wear indicators. When you hear that, do 'em as soon as possible. If they get metal to metal, it's too late...you're looking a getting your rotors turned then. Shouldn't take but less than an hour to do 'em both. And use some anti-squeal stuff behind the pads when you install 'em.The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home? The answer to your first question is: (survey says), not at all. This is a fairly simple task. Tools required: wheel caulk, floor jack, jack stand, drive ratchet, 14mm socket, a disk brake tool or a C clamp, and a tire iron or cross. To get started on this job park the car so it is on a slight incline. Set the parking brake and place wheel caulk(s) behind rear tire(s). Before raising vehical loosen lug nuts on both tires. Next place floor jack in front of vehical and slide under to the cars crossmember. This is a central main beam that craddles engine and supports suspension. Find at best its center and raise. Once in the air you might find that even though your dead center when you raised it one side is higher than the other, don't worry it will always be like that. Place jack stands at jacking points for your car. If you don't know where they are you can find it in your owners manual or a repair manual or I could just tell you. Right before the wheel well of the front tires you should see a lip that putrudes a bit more than the rest of the under siding. Thats your jack point. Remove lug nuts and tire. Next with your ratchet and 14mm you will need to remove two(2) bolts from the brake caliper. On the otherside of the calpier at each end are the bolts. These will take a little convincing to loosen the bolts. Before the bolts are removed find something the caliper can perch on. Do Not let the caliper just hang there by the brake hose. Remove old pads, inspect rotor for grooves, thickness should still be ok unless you do a good amount of hard braking. Next remove the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. Try not to leave cap off for too long for brake fluid is gyroscope. Meaning it absorbes moisture from the air. You shouldn't need to add any brake fluid. Next with a brake caliper tool or C clamp push the piston, (that cylintrical piece) back in making sure the boot telescopes uniformly back as well. You should notice the fluid in the reservoir rise as well. Next insert new pads and slip caliper over the rotor. Bolt back on and repeat on other side. Once you are done there shouldn't be any extra parts, the pads don't count as extra because you started with 4 new ones and now you have 4 old ones. Tighten reservoir cap and wa-la, done.
The answer to your second question is that disk brakes have there own timely reminder system. When they start to squeak is when they should be changed, or if you feel a hard grinding when applying the brakes. If your wondering how do pads do that well the ones you took off look at them. You see a popsicle stick size of metal that comes from the back of the pad but ends up on the side just a little. Thats your indicator. When metal rubs agaisnt metal it creates a squeaking sound and it gets louder and louder until replaced. So until your breaks start squeaking is when you should change them. Join me next week folks as we look at rocket engines and there muliple uses at home. The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?As others have said, changing your brake pads is pretty easy, if you've got any mechanical inclination. But make sure you do it on time - brake pads are cheap, but if you try to eke out every last mile from the pads, you could wreck your brake rotors - and fixing them is a lot harder than just replacing the pads.

I have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?
Ok I know you are probably going to laugh after reading this, but anyhow here it is. I had to order my brakes and rotors and they just came in today, and I realized that I only bought one front rotor and one rear rotor so now I have to order more. I have never changed my own brakes, so I really didn't know what I was ordering when I did it. My uncle is going to show me how to change them after I get the parts. Anyhow, I ordered one set of front brake pads and one set of rear brake pads..... So here is the stupid question, does a set of pads cover the left and right (there is 4 in the box), or do I need to order an additional set of pads along with the rotors......
:)I have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?One box of front brake pads will have pads for both sides, no need to order moreI have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?each set cover neither the front or the back, each set have 4 pads which for front or the back, but they will have different model number, they won't share the same padsI have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?U have what u needI have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?You will need 4 pads in the front of the car and 4 in the back. 2 on each wheel.
You will need to order 2 more rotors 1 for the front and 1 for the back. If the front pads came in a box and there are 4 you should be set. you need 4 for the back also.I have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?If you ordered two sets of pads that would cover the left front and right front. Thus four pads.If you ordered a set for the rear then it would cover the left rear and the right rear. Now as far as the rotors. You do not have to change rotors every time you do a brake job.Are your rotors damaged from the lack of a brake job?Are did you feel you had to replace them along with pads? Anyway on the pads you should be good to go..I have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?Pads come as a set for both sides rotors are sold individually because you only usually replace them if they are damaged or warn below there minimum thickness. So if you really need all new rotors get the other 2 you should be fine on the pads.I have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?remember the only stupid question is the one you didnt ask.in a box of brake pads there are 4 pads, enough to do both sides.not very hard to do.good luck.I have an extremely stupid question about my brakes!?when you order a set of pads, you get set for both wheels in the box.same way for the back.

Mechanical disc brakes help?
I recently changed my tyres from downhill mtb to semi-slick hybrids. I have mechanical disc brakes on both wheels and after changing the wheels the front wheel continues to brake strongly and progressivly. However the rear disc has gone from a progressive braking to locking the tyre, even a small amount of pressure now locks the rear wheel. I have adjusted the pad spacing and the cable length but there is not a lot of change. How would i fix this, or is this down to a lower grip on the new tyres and cant be fixed?Mechanical disc brakes help?To change how well the brakes grab change the pads, different compounds are available for most disk brakes and can change how hard or soft they engage. Check with your local bike shop to see what they carry, don't be afraid to mix two compounds either to get the progressive braking your after.Mechanical disc brakes help?count yourself lucky you have mechanical disk brakes that work, get some levers with some modulation adjustment (like alot of avids do) tweak them and enjoy! :)Mechanical disc brakes help? You got it right.
The tyre grip has changed the dynamics of the brake system. There is little you can do. It puzzles me why you'd want to use a bike designed for offroad on the road...seems similar to driving a Rolls Royce in the dirt.

When you bleed brakes how can you tell when there's no more air in the brakes lines, also?
i'm gonna change my 2 front calipers do i need to bleed all 4 brakes or just the front 2When you bleed brakes how can you tell when there's no more air in the brakes lines, also?the rear brakes are most likely drum brakes which are cable operated from the e-brake ( depending on what type of car )..
If you have never done it i would suggest to leave it for someone who has, but to answer the question, the bleeder valve will bubble with air, all you do is just keep repeating the process until nothing but brake fluid comes out, be sure to close the valve before the brake pedal hits the floor so no air gets in, if you want a complete guide on bleeding the brakes let me know...When you bleed brakes how can you tell when there's no more air in the brakes lines, also? For the cost of brake fluid bleed all four. That way you will have fresh fluid. I always spray some WD 40 or penetrating oil on the bleeders the day or two before. Start with the furthest brake from the master cylinder first and then the next. BUT remember you have to keep the master cylinder full of brake fluid so it will not suck in air, and you have to lightly press the brake pedal all the way to the floor and let up on it easy because it causes a surge and will spray brake fluid everywhere. GOOD LUCK!!

Advice on front brake parts and replacing them?
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger. 2wd not sure of 4 or 2 wheel anti-lock. It is the 4cyl, 2.5L. Just would like some advice/help on new rotors and pads for the front, and how to go about changing them.
would it be better to get more expensive rotors or pads? should I just get factor parts? Should I just get some one to do it? I have the tools just not 100% knowledge.Advice on front brake parts and replacing them?Ford brakes are easy to change, jackup your truck, remove the wheel then, look at the caliper, it holds both disk pads in place, look at the sliding bar on top of the breaks you will see two bolts about 1/2 size take these 2 bolts out, then tap the caliper down until the top (where the slide bar is) clears the slot in the top, then pull the caliper off and the old pads will fall out (remember which pad is in and which pad is out) then take a C-clamp and using one of the old pads push the plunger(the thing that shoves the brake pads) back so the new pads will go over the disk brake rotary, then install the new brake pads and put everthing back together just as it come apart. Now since you pushed the plunger in the caliper back with the c-clamp you didn't lose much brake fluid at all, so now you will not have to bleed the brakes just check to see if you need to add more brake fluid. Then when you get ready to move your truck remember to pump your brakes a few time before you move the truck, if you forget to pump your brakes the first time you hit your brakes you may not have any.Advice on front brake parts and replacing them?Go to any major auto store and they should sell repair manuals for most models. As for the brake parts, always go for top quality, since inferior brakes can cause accidents. Also, get ceramic brakes since they perform better and leave less brake dust.Advice on front brake parts and replacing them?i would get the cheaper pads but more expensive rotors they are less likely to warp dont but factory.i had 95 blazer and they would have to be changed erery 30,000 milesAdvice on front brake parts and replacing them?#1 Your vehicle's braking ability is extremely crucial to your safety as well as the motorist around you; so have someone who is 100% knowledgeable to work on them
#2 If you don't have any extinuating circumstances in the way which you drive your vehicle, factory parts are always the best way to go. Should be about 5$ - 15$ a rotor. They come off easily once the caliper is off. Just pull.

Ok, I have a 1998 ford taurus, and it is scheduled for inspection.. . i would like to know a ball park on how much this is going to drain my pocket - new front brakes, oil change, inspection obviously, and either cut or new rotors??? Please help!!!Car Help Please Answer ASAP?front brakes:

I am an hour away from from a large city.No inspections in OhioCar Help Please Answer ASAP?this all depends on your state's regulations. whenever i take my vehicle for inspection (texas), they just check the lights, wipers, hand brake, gas cap, the 20mph roll and stop, seat belts, and emissions (via the computer plug in they use instead of the rod they used to insert into the muffler). the main thing that would keep my car from getting a %26quot;go%26quot; would be a check engine soon code. if you have no codes and everything listed above is in good condition, then you should be set. again, depending on your state's regulations. unless your brakes are squeaking like there's no tomorrow, i really dont see a need for you to have to replace them and get the rotors turned prior to the inspection. of course, its wise to keep up with your vehicle's maintenance, but not crucial for the inspection (again, depending on your state's reg's). so just make sure your wipers are functional and not falling apart, your gas cap screws on right and is not flimsy or cracked, your lights arent busted, seat belts are in good condition and actually retract, hand brake really does keep the car from rolling away, there's no check engine light on, and that your brakes can stop your vehicle in a short distance when rolling at 20mph. if you've been keeping up with proper maintenance for your vehicle, this should be a walk in the park. :) good luck!Car Help Please Answer ASAP?i hope it won't need everything you mention. the inspection is about 20 dollars or less.

I have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. Anyone know how much it costs??
I will go to an Infinity dealership. So around how much am I looking at??? It is a sedan by the way..........thanks alotI have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. Anyone know how much it costs??Pads themselves are fairly inexpensive items, and can be replaced by almost any home mechanic armed with only the simplest tools. Resurfacing the rotors, (like regrinding brake drums), checking the brake pistons, cylinders, lines, seals, and such, are another thing entirely. The total cost of a Brake job is going to vary greatly depending on (1.) where and who does it, and (2) what all needs attention to perform it , besides just replacing the pads. Pads can be bought for as little as eight dollars a pair, for most passenger cars, from some sources.I have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. Anyone know how much it costs??In the US a dealership will charge $260 per axle for pads and rotor resurfacing.

I have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. Anyone know how much it costs??Probably around $100When and what to change for my BMW e46 Brakes?
I have a 2001 BMW e46 316i
I noticed that when I am climbing a hill or coming down a hill at speeds, my brakes sometimes makes a squeky noise, sometime ago a mechanic said to me that my brakes needs changing, as the brake oil had come down quite a bit.
Now I am going to buy the brakes today from BMW, I am thinking how many should I buy, I am thinking of buying all 4 brakes, but I might be wrong here. It is worth buying just front 2 or all 4.
Also, on a more seperate note, when I was driving this morning, on a wet icy road, coming down the hill, the car skidded and i temporarily lost control, it was going sideways to hit another vehicle, I am note sure if this is related to the brakes or just the road condition, I did put on the ASC function afterwards, is this the right thing to do and what else do I need to check in the car ?When and what to change for my BMW e46 Brakes?Firstly, your ASC is turned ON by default. (No light = ON, orange ASC light on = OFF).
Brake pads should be changed in pairs. Also, you will need to buy a brake wear sensor.
You'll need 1 sensor for the front, 1 for the rear.
If the mechanic said you have brake fluid leaking, you have a more serious brake problem that may require the brake calipers to be changed too.
Depending on how worn your rotors are, you may also need new brake rotors (discs).
You can tell by looking through your wheels how much brake pad life you have by looking at the thickness of the brake pad friction material. Then judge by yourself whether you need 1 or 2 pairs. Squeeky noise does not necessarily mean you need new brakes.
Edit: it's advisable to change your brake sensors everytime you change your pads even if the sensors have not physically rubbed on your rotors. It's not expensive, in the US, it's $10 a piece. The reason is the plastic piece that clips onto your rotor normally would become brittle with age and heat from your pads. It's easy to break it when you remove it.

How do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?
what is the best way to change the brakes and rotor on a dodge carvanHow do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?Start by removing a wheel(1/4 or 19mm. lug nuts). Remove the 10mm. or may be 13mm. bolt from the caliper. Use a straight screwdriver to pry off caliper. Press the caliper piston back into the caliper with channel locks or a C clamp. Reason for only taking 1 caliper off at a time is so the other caliper piston does not come out of the caliper when pressing 1 piston back (pushing fluid to the other side). It's also normal for fluid to come out the master cylinder. You may have to spray lubricant of the rotor and beat the rotor off. Once off you could put antisieze on the spindle, disc brake quiet on the pads(can buy at auto store). Rotor may come off easier next service with anti seize on spindle. Lube all slides and reverse directions to put back together. Good luck! How do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?take the calipers off, beat the heck out of the rotors, till they come off, then put the new ones on.. just remember to push the caliper piston back in, before you put the new pads on...How do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?if you have front disc brakes and its like a dodge ram theni can help. first off get a allen wrench or a socket type that is 3/8 and remove the bolts holding on the calipers. next find a place for the calipers to rest while you work. dont let them hang there. next remove the cotter pin on the outside of rotor. next remove the rotor will prolly require some beating with a rubber mallet or dead blow. next take the wheel bearing grease seal out of the back side of the rotor and remove the bearings. next repack the bearings and place in new rotor. put on new wheel bearing grease seal. the reverse the order of operations used to remove. now take a c-clamp and push the piston back in the caliper. install new pad and place caliper over rotor. install bolts. and your done. oh the best thing to do is to go to a auto parts store and buy the haynes manual.

Disk brakes wearing too fast?
I have a 1995 Dogdge Ram Van where the passenger front side brakes wear out faster than the left front side. I changed the caliper with a new one and bled all four wheels starting from the fartest side and then eventually down to the front right side. After w few months I check on the pads and sure enough the same thing is happening. Is there a manifold that balance the fluid? If so how do I correct the pressure to be all equal.Disk brakes wearing too fast?Which caliper did you replace? Sometimes a frozen slider will wear faster, and sometimes a frozen caliper will force the other side to wear. Check the pressure at the caliper, Maybe you have a collapsed line or something else causing it.Disk brakes wearing too fast?if you did all that stuff, then maybe its your master cylinder.Disk brakes wearing too fast?Worped roter. You can get them shaved at Minikee for cheap. Try that before master cilinder and all that nonsense.Disk brakes wearing too fast?Looks like a sticky(dragging caliper)unless you have a chewed up rotor on the bad side.....cut or replace both rotors and replace both calipers with rebuilts...flush the system with clean brake fluid before you replace to keep slop and dirty fluid out of the new rebuilt calipersDisk brakes wearing too fast?Check that you do not have a warped rotor - that will cause them to wear that way (and pull or pulse when you break).
Right near, or under, the master cyl there should be a %26quot;Block%26quot; where the master lines enter and the other lines come out. That is the %26quot;Balancing Block%26quot; for the system.
You can buy replacements (not suggested) - IE: you cannot change the pressure in stock blocks.
Or you can get custom balance blocks that you can manually adjust (suggested) FYI: count the OUT lines and line sizes, that matters.
To adjust the manual blocks find a gravel or dirt road without much (any) traffic. Start with 60% front, 40% rear. Then get up to about 20 MPH, and break until a wheel locks up, look in the dirt / gravel, for the wheel that locked and back its adjustment off until you get all 4 tires locking up at the same time. This can take a while.
The Links below are where you can buy them.
(Dirt Track parts stores normally stock these items)Disk brakes wearing too fast?you need to replace the other caliper too. i know it sucks but you should always replace brake components as a set. plus it may fix your problem, also make sure your caliper rails and anything the caliper rides on is clean of rust and dirt, maybe with a wire brush (not the rotor), good luckDisk brakes wearing too fast?t's possibile that your passenger side disc brakes is a little tighter than the driver side causing it to wear faster

How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang?
The title says it all...I need to change the brake pads and rotors...but I can't get the caliper off.How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang?pull the wheel off,two bolts hold the caliper on,after u pull the caliper off,u can see the brake pads sitting in the caliper bracket,u can just pull those off,if u need to get to the rotors,u gotta take two more bolts out of the bracket, the rotor should just pull off or u might have to smack it with a hammer that is if its a pull of rotor,if its a rotor with wheel bearing in it u gotta take the dust cap off and take the nut off and along with the bearing, its fairly simple, hope that helps. How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang? You'll need 1/2 inch metric sockets and a minimum of a 12 inch ratchet. If a 12 inch ratchet doesn't get the bolts loose on the caliper and caliper bracket get a 16%26quot; breaker bar. To collapse the caliper piston before trying to remove the caliper from the caliper bracket use a carpenters screw clamp or a monster c-clamp.How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang? The calipers are held on by two bolts, the bolts have to come out of the caliper to come off that bracket. If you got that done and your having trouble getting the caliper off the rotor then you have to take some care and try to pry it off. The brake pads have worn down around the outer edge of the rotor and cant get passed a small lip that has built up there. Drain some brake fluid out of the caliper and see if that helps. That bracket has to come off, it might of had some lock-tite used on it. That will need some heat on it from a torch or a electric paint stripper to get the bolt loose.
What's wrong with my wheels??? Please helppppp!?
I have a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier, and recently, it's been making some strange noises (almost like a rubbing sound or grinding) when I turn and when I brake. It's not all of the time, but it seems worse when I really crank the wheel. Also, when I brake, it almost seems like my car sinks or jerks sometimes, and of course does the rubbing noise once in awhile. My dad changed my front brake pads around 2 years ago, and I believe it comes from the back of my car, but I don't know how to tell which wheel it is, or if it's even the wheels! It's murdering my gas mileage, and I would like to know what it is. How to tell, and how much it's going to cost me! Please help! What's wrong with my wheels??? How much would these repairs cost for a 2000 honda civic?
I was told that I need Front brakes, transmission fluid changed and Left Outer Tie Rod End.... now my guess is the brakes are the bulk of the charge... i was told $400-$500. thanks ohh and i have about 113200 miles on my car and its starting to burn oil.. thanks to all for answersHow much would these repairs cost for a 2000 honda civic? That sounds about right for now adays prices...I would call Midas or Meineke, they do all those things and usually offer a better price, only thing is on the breaks they use really cheap ones I would ask for Ceramic Breaks if you can afford it they usually only cost $20.00 more and they last longer put out less dust and just generally work better than the cheap ones, unlessw you plan on selling the car in the next six months. How much would these repairs cost for a 2000 honda civic?Thats a little higher than average. But like someone else said, $300 would be more realistic, especially for a shop that does brakes all day. It's an easy task for them. And your car is actually simple enough already to work on brakes. You should look into doing it yourself if youre capable. And the transmission fluid change is just that, draining the old fluid, putting the new fluid in. The tie rod is simple as well, remove a cotter pin, and a castle nut, unscrewing the tie rod, and installing in reverse order. Then the alignment will be from $50-$100 depending on where you go. If you have a firestone, go there. They have a great deal, it's lifetime alignment for the time you own your car. It runs $129-$179, but you will never have to pay for alignment again as long as you own your car. Its a great deal though. But do a little calling around and find a few different places and go with the best (not cheapest). Dont just look at price. You dont wanna pay $50 for a $300 and be driving down the freeway and your brakes fail. Find a reputable repair shop and try to work a good deal out with them. Most privately owned shops will work with you a better price. How much would these repairs cost for a 2000 honda civic?Well you must need a complete front brake job if the cost is that high.If you went to the dealer for your brakes that too is possible. Also if you live in one of the northern states. Down here in Arkansas the average cost for a complete front brake job...to wit ...Brake pads new rotors new calipers Bleed and flush complete brake system...Cost around $300.00 The outer tie rod cost is not much but the alignment 4 wheels is around $80.00a transmission drain and fill...By the way that Honda has a drain plug on the transmission just like the oil pan on the engine. Make sure they drain the RIGHT fluid!! that cost around $30.00For better results and gas mileage switch to SYNTHETIC oil. It doesn%26quot;t burn.Brake parts Recommend WAGNER BRAND.
Changing bike brakes?
i have a old GT talera mountain bike, it has V-brakes, and the brake pieces are cracked in both front and back, it's really/near impossible hard to unscrew them as they are old(only got one off), how do i get the screws and bolts out so i can change brakes?Changing bike brakes?Never use Liquid Wrench on anything cycling or automotive related. Use Kroil. It is a special penetrant used largely by the classic car community.
Brakes squeak because of old pads or improper toe-in of the pads. If the rear of the pads hit the rim before the front a high frequency vibration is set up which is what you call a squeak. Changing bike brakes?Let them soak in Liquid Wrench for a while. Disconnect the brake cable and remove the wheel. Put a pair of channel locks on the pad and try to turn it while holding the screw.

Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?
About a year ago getting my tires changed the mechanic mentioned I need new pads. Sure enough they started to grind soon after. I changed all four front pads. Now less then a year later the grinding is back (was always just on the driver's side). I drive easy, no hard braking or drifting around corners. Is it ok to just change the one rotor? How about the pads? The sales guy also was trying to sell a bunch of extras like cleaner to get the oil off the rotor, replacement grease for the caliper bolts and something else because of the time of year (salt). The rotor box says %26quot;ready to install%26quot;, so do I also really need all that other stuff?
In case it matters: 2002 Saturn SL2 front wheel drive %26lt;100K milesIs it ok to change just one brake rotor? Its fine to do if your broke and only one is giving u the problem but chances are the other isn't far behind. I think your problem is either worn calliper or wheel baring because the problem is only on the 1 side. As for what the sales guy was trying to sell you pretty well bull other than its a good idea to keep the rotor as clean as possible and to keep your calliper bolts or any bolt u might have to take off again with anti seize.
Hope u find this helpfulIs it ok to change just one brake rotor? That %26quot;sales guy%26quot; does NOT sound good to me! Run (don't walk) to the door and say goodbye forever. Make sure to try another independent repair shop you might find by searching the below link. That new garage will remove both your rotors (easy to do) and simply turn them done on a lathe and charge you about $30 plus the cost of the new pads for a total cost of $125. Do the complete front brake job the right way, and you'll pay less and be safer driving in the long run.
http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?Even though it says ready to install, they do ship them with a light oil, and I always spray new rotors down with brake cleaner. As far as replacing one rotor, I would rather not. In hard braking it could cause the car to swerve slightly. Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?1 get 2nd opinion
2 id rather you get 2 rotors if you can afford it but if poor one is ok ..
3 i can't believe the ****** is trying to nickle and dime you...charge for a smear of grease? and a spray of cleaner PLEASE punch him for me!Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?if it did it the 2nd time then it,s probably the caliper sticking. you can change just 1 side unless the other rotor is thin then you need to change both rotors to get good braking action. also when you buy rotors the factory puts grease or oil on them to keep them from rusting so before installing them wash them down with brake cleaner. Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?clean all oil off the rotors and grease the bolts to make sure the calipers slide back in forth freely if they dont you will eat brake pad up.Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?i would rather change %26quot;both%26quot; rotors at the same time. and if you plan to replace the brake pads, change both too.
the grinding sound that you feel is probably the cause of a warped rotor... this happens when the rotor gets hot when driving then a splash of water hits the rotor or going straight to the car wash after a long drive.
you don't have to buy those brake cleaners or grease.
the rotors are not that expensive anyway and even the brake pads. the expensive one is the %26quot;brake caliper%26quot;... but i don't think that you have a problem with this part.Is it ok to change just one brake rotor? If you're wearing out one side prematurely, there's a reason. You may have a stuck caliper. The caliper must be free to slide side-to-side on the guide pins as the pads wear. If it's sticking, then you'll likely wear out one pad on that side before the others. If the rotor on the other side still has plenty of metal thickness left, then you could just replace one side. BUT you should have the old rotor ground or machined to remove any 'glaze'- that's when the surface gets polished from wear and heat. If you don't remove the glaze the new rotor will grab better than the old one and cause it to pull to one side. You MUST replace ALL the pads at the same time.
You need to clean and lubricate the guide pins (high-quality bearing grease works fine) and the holes where they slide. There's a small rubber seal that keeps out dirt. If the rubber is broken, dirt and water can get in and cause the caliper to stick. Also, you need to use shims behind the pads and pad silencer goop on the shims. Otherwise you'll end up with brakes that squeal.

How do i replace calipers and wheel barrings?
i have a 94 s10 and i need help on how to change the calipers and hoses and bleed the brakes and also how to replace/tighten/pack the wheel barrings.. thanks!! details would help alot! and if you know any mistakes that could occur and cause major damage.. please warn me!! its a 4.3 vortec v6 automatic RWD.. if i change the front calipers do i have to bleed all four wheels?? how exactly do you bleed the brakes? How do i replace calipers and wheel barrings?the best bet for you is to find a friend that knows what hes doing, and have him show you.
you can get yourself in a lot of trouble trying to learn on your own
they are really not too complicated once you learn the basics %26amp; what to do and when to do it.How do i replace calipers and wheel barrings? You should start with a shop manual. A chiltons manual will tell you all the info you require. How do i replace calipers and wheel barrings?Okay... let me give this a shot...
Bleeding brakes... you will have bolts on the rear of the caliper holding it on, undo those, unhook the brake line (it should unscrew), get your new caliper out and fill it up with brake fluid (this is what i do, not everyone does it tho). let it bubble and drain down into the caliper and refill it until it stays full. if you're replacing the brake lines, follow them to the distribution block (just follow the lines to a metal box that they are screwed into) and unscrew the line from there. Put your replacement line in and screw the other end into the caliper. Do the same thing on the opposite side (if you started on the driver side, move on to the passenger side). After you've done all the brake work, get a friend to sit in the driver seat. Take the cap off the master cylinder and fill it to the top with brake fluid. Next get down by your caliper... have your friend pump the brakes 10 times... and then have them hold the brakes down! Now you need to unscrew the bleeder valve located on the top/back of the caliper. After the fluid shoots out, tighten the valve back up. Repeat the process a few times, then move on to the next side. You WILL need to bleed the rear drums as well. They also will have a bleeder valve on them...
Wheel bearings... I'm not 100% sure on your S10, but I have a Toyota Pickup and the bearings are fairly easy to replace. You will need to take your steel cap off the hub, and there will be a spindle/bearing nut. Unscrew the nut, and remove your rotor and hub assembly. The bearings are inside of that assembly... remove the old ones. Now put a decent amount of bearing grease in the palm of your hand and pack the bearings with grease... spare no grease... the more the merrier! Now replace the old worn out bearings with your new ones. Put the assembly back together, and tighten the bearing nut TIGHT! And then back it back off and snug it. This will seat the bearings. Replace the cotter pin that goes over the bearing nut, and voila! The job is done... throw your tire back on and move on to the next side and repeat the process.
I strongly agree that you need to go down to AutoZone and pick up a Haynes manual for your truck. They are relatively idiot-proof and will walk you through each process better than I can. Good luck and hope this helps! How do i replace calipers and wheel barrings?Remove wheels

When you rotate the piston to get it to retract, you don't need the special tool. I just use a decent sized needle nosed pliers and stick the tips into the notches. And I have the special tool!
Also, you may notice that the inner pad has a knob on the back. The piston should be rotated all the way in, and then back out just enough so that the knob fits in one of the notches. I guess Chilton's forgot to mention that! :-)

How often to change the brake pads?
I drive a Nissan sentra 04,I am hearing a constant scratching sound from the front wheels,The maintanance manual says it is the audible reminder to change the brake pads,How long(avg in Kms) a brake pad lasts in city driving??How often to change the brake pads?it all depends on the material making up the pad, if its cheap semi metallic combined with persistent sudden braking, you can run down pads in less than 6 months, invest on carbon ceramic pads and don't do sudden braking.
How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?
Hi,
My car is 01 Hyundai Sonata.
I recently had a car check up and the precision tune auto shop recommended me to get new ceramic brake pads and rotors and change the transmission oil, motor oil, brake fluid and the battery.
For those works, how much SHOULD it cost for me?, meaning what's the normal price range for the job?
They wanted $640. Do you think that cost makes sense?
I live in Northern California, near San Jose.
I'd appreciate your answers. Thank youHow much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?Parts cost is about $60 for pads, $150 for rotors, $20 for tranny fluid, $20 for oil/filter, $10 for brake fluid and $85 for battery prior to labor you already are at $350, so 4.5 hours to do the job seems very good. Now, if you need all this work I don't know, I suggest getting a second opinion and compare with the scheduled maintenance list for your car and follow that. Tranny fluid every 30K, oil/filter 5K, rest of items as needed. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?I would say that is on the high end.
I would say that the most expensive things they are hitting you for are the pad and rotors, and the battery. These auto shops have most consumers accustomed to paying high prices for brake jobs, when in fact they are cheap (strictly speaking about changing the pads and rotars, not the ABS system, etc...).
The battery I'm guessing shouldn't cost over $65. You could do that yourself.
I would try to find a shop that would do it for under $450. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?Well under $200 with quality parts if you do it your self. It's really easy stuff.permanent rash medical doctor at home

It's really easy stuff.
I have a Fiat Seicento and while changing the front wheel one of the bolts which holds the wheel on sheared?
Now I only have 3 wheel bolts in. They aren't nuts which fasten onto studs but are bolts which screw into the part that the brake disc is fastened to and which I don't know the name of .I'm more worried about how difficult/expensive it will be to get the broken bolt out than driving on 3 bolts Any ideas pleaseI have a Fiat Seicento and while changing the front wheel one of the bolts which holds the wheel on sheared?Yep, did the same to my mates pug GTI. Take it down the mechanics they'll drill it out for a couple quid then its just the cost of the replacement. You should be fine taking it at low speed with three bolts till you get to there.I have a Fiat Seicento and while changing the front wheel one of the bolts which holds the wheel on sheared?Fix it as soon as you can, and keep an eye on it until you do. It's just a matter of having a mechanic drill a hole in the broken bolt and extracting it with an easy out, and then putting in a new one. Shouldn't be terribly expensive.I have a Fiat Seicento and while changing the front wheel one of the bolts which holds the wheel on sheared? With the wheel off you might just have enough of the broken bolt left to unscrew with a pair of vice grips. The part its screwed into is the hub, hope this helps,
How much does it cost to change brake pads and rotors?
I recently went to a car repair shop and these are the things that they want to do with my car... get new front and rear brakes, new front rotors, service front calipers and rear drums and bleed all system. The mechanic gave me an estimate of $454 including labor and parts. Is that a good deal or does that cost too much? My car is Nissan Altima 1999.How much does it cost to change brake pads and rotors?Yes you have to change your brake pad as quick as possible before it causes major damage to your metal disc. But the price what he has quoted is expansive. $ 350 should be alright for the good breaking pad including the the labor cost. How much does it cost to change brake pads and rotors?I would ask about the %26quot;service front calipers%26quot; part. Most new calipers are self adjusting and not serviceable. The days of rebuilding calipers are pretty much over with. Unless the caliper is frozen in the slides or leaking there isn't much to %26quot;service%26quot;. As far as the price goes I would say it sounds pretty fair. Probably about 2-2.5 hours of labor plus parts. How much does it cost to change brake pads and rotors?that's not a bad price for a shop to be doing the work, but the price for parts is about half that, the rest is labor. How much does it cost to change brake pads and rotors?Get another quote, but get it done quick or quit driving the car with bad brakes. Killing somebody because of money is just stupid. How much does it cost to change brake pads and rotors?I Just did all that on a Nissan Altima this morning for $300 (reputable shop)
2003 Sienna High Speed Vibration. Replaced Front Tires and Balanced and Aligned.Stll whole interior vib. at 65?
Right I got this crazy vibration only after replacing the front and back brakes last year. The van does not vibrate when braking though. I took it back to them.. they could not do any thing.. How can brake change cause this ?2003 Sienna High Speed Vibration. Replaced Front Tires and Balanced and Aligned.Stll whole interior vib. at 65?If the rotors were replaced, they may not be of good quality and not be balanced.2003 Sienna High Speed Vibration. Replaced Front Tires and Balanced and Aligned.Stll whole interior vib. at 65?Try another wheel balance, and check the u-joints, front or rear as they can really set up a good vibration.
It is also possible you have a bad tire that is out of round, or tread separation.

Can I change my 1993 impreza's rear drum brakes to disk brakes?
My impreza has disk in the front and drum in the rear. I want to change the drum to disk. Should i? Can i? Link or explanetion on how please. Can I change my 1993 impreza's rear drum brakes to disk brakes?you'll need new/used knuckles with mounting points for the calipers. running the brake line from where the wheel cylinder was and swapping over the ebrake parts are the hardest part. i've done it so it is possible, just gotta find all the parts.
How to remove a stripped bolt?
I was changing the front brakes and rotors on a 2003 Ford Taurus. Driver side went well but on the passenger side did not. I removed the 2 bolts holding the caliper in place but 1 of the 2 bolts holding the rotor in place (don't know the name of it) gave me a lot of trouble.
I was using my socket wrench to remove the bolt but it would not budge. I used my hammer to try and get it to give but the socket ended up stripping the bolt head. Any ideas on how to remove a stripped bolt? How to remove a stripped bolt?Jordan's answer is the best one.
In future, purchase a longer-handled socket wrench (sears sells a VERY handy %26quot;extendible%26quot; socket wrench, that I have and love http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605 , or use a %26quot;breaker bar%26quot; which will increase your leverage on the socket. Basically, a breaker bar is just a long steel pipe that slips onto the handle of the socket wrench to increase your leverage. How to remove a stripped bolt? Were you using a full hex socket, if your were not then try to find one it may come out with that.
Failing that snap on and the like make flank drive sockets that drive on the sides of the nut/bolt head and not the corners.
Before trying again get a large punch on the head and belt it with a hammer to shock the bolt this can be used to good effect to help loosen the bolt. How to remove a stripped bolt?Try the vice grip, but make sure the head is all the way down in the bottom of the jaws. Adjust the grip as tight as you can make it and still get it closed. Spray some W9-40 on the threads (not the head) and let it soak a while. You won't hurt the head any more than you already have. You should replace it anyway or it will give you trouble the next time too.How to remove a stripped bolt?you could by a bolt out kit from craftsman or it you take a hammer and a chisel, you can make a good notch in the edge of the bolt head, and then once you have done that angle the chisel so that when you hit it, it is going to turn the bolt out. this works really when, when done correctly because of the force. it is better than the bolt out. or you could try a vice grips.

in any case, you need to use heat/and-or/penetrating oil to break loose. else youll just keep getting pxxssed off.How to remove a stripped bolt?soak it in PB Blaster and give the vice grips a try- or one of those sockets designed to grip stripped bolts.
if you stripped it with a socket that means you had the wrong sized socket on it. be more careful, but sometimes these things are unavoidable. How to remove a stripped bolt? The first thing you should do is call the Ford dealer and make sure they have one (or 4) of those bolts in stock. If not, get it ordered.
WD40 is not a penetrating oil. Get some good penetrating oil and soak it several times over a day or so. I'm guessing you want to be able to drive the car soon, but the longer and more often you can soak the bolt, the better. While you're at the parts store, get some anti-seize thread compound so this doesn't happen with the new bolt.
If there is nothing heat-sensitive around/behind this bolt, sometimes a good heating with a propane torch helps break rusty bolts free. But if this is on a brake rotor, it's already seen a lot of heating and cooling cycles in its life, so I would probably skip the torch.
Vice grips suck. If you couldn't budge it with a proper socket and ratchet, the vice grips are just going to make it worse.
If the corners are just rounded off a bit, I would stick to using sockets. If your old socket was a 12-point, get one that's 6-sided. And get the proper size. For an '03 Taurus, it should be metric. I don't know which bolts you're talking about, so I can't guess the size. Maybe take the new bolt from the dealership to the store and get the socket to fit. If it won't go on anymore due to the stripped corners, pound it on with the hammer. Just don't hit it so hard that you'll damage the socket.
If it really won't come out, Sears sells those fluted bolt remover sockets. Honestly my experiences have been mixed with them, but sometimes they work.
Assuming the bolt head is still intact after all this, do you know anybody with a welder? You can weld a larger nut to the bolt head, then use a socket on that nut to turn the bolt.programming div myspace

Can you answer my Toyota questions?
How come my 12 year old Toyota 2wd Hilux regular cab 5 speed manual truck with 98,000 miles, which cost 1/3 the cost of my Dad's 11 year old Ford F-150 extra cab truck with a bigger motor than mine, automatic and 82,000 miles did new. Has the same blue book?
How come I launched my truck off of a 6 foot mound of dirt into a 20 foot tall pile of hay barrels, and nothing broke?
How come at 98,000 miles all I had to do to my truck was change the front brake pads?
How come this thing won't die?
I won't buy a new truck untill this dies, but it just seems like I can't kill it.
I ring its neck, I drive 40mph over speedbumps, driveway dips, up curbs down curbs, through mud, bushes, off loading docks, but the truck just keeps going. I haven't even changed the oil in a year. Why won't it Die?!?!?!Can you answer my Toyota questions?Had the same problem with my Dodge Rams, one lasted for 180,000 miles(1995) and then sold it and bought another that lasted for 400,000 miles(2001 diesel). They just won't die!Can you answer my Toyota questions?BECAUSE IT IS A TOYOTA.Can you answer my Toyota questions?Pull the plug off of the oil pan and drive it down the interstate at 90mph for a little bit. the Ford Ranger frame is just as strong as the toyota's. both truck are favorites for off road short track racers because they can handle abuse.

the motor itself is built well, if you think about it, the motors in most car, foreign and American are built very well, it's the accessories that don't last as long, (i.e. starters, alternators, etc..). It all depends on what you do with the car and how you treat it.
There's a guy who was profiled in Consumer Reports magazine that has a 94 Ranger with the 3.0L engine and has over 500,000 miles. This guy knows how to take care of his truck. He said he has had very little problems, and just puts oil %26amp; tires in it.

How much does a front brake job for an '06 Dodge Charger cost?
I think all it needs is for the brake pads to be changed. There is a little squeaking but very minor so I think the discs are ok. These brakes are high performance brakes that came with the car off the lot.How much does a front brake job for an '06 Dodge Charger cost?Whatever you do...DO NOT got to a chain brake shop such as Brake Team or Just Brakes, they are thieves and will sell you hundreds in stuff you do not need... you will NEVER get out of their shop with the 99.88 all four wheel brake job.... Brake Team out west quoted my brother 1600.00 in brake work, he declined and asked for it in writing, they refused...he took it to a friends shop and they discovered the brakes were brand new, but a caliper pin had broken... Total cost of repair = 7.00 , oh he had just bought the van and heard this noise so he took it in to see what it was, not knowing the condition of his brakes at all...

You'll also need to turn the rotors and drums so there is no low or high spots. Some auto parts stores do this for free for buying the pads and shoes.
You'll need a micrometer to measure that there is enough metal on the rotors and brake drums. Again most auto parts stores can do this for free.

How do I fix a low/mushy break pedal?
I had to change the front brake pads in my 95 chevrolet beretta a couple of days ago. I bled the tires then added in more brake fluid. When I pressed the brake pedal it went to the floor and didn't stop the car from moving.
The next day I bled all four tires and got a little more stopping power but the pedal is still touching the floor. The calipers were squeezing the rotors. This time I noticed that the amount of brake fluid in my reservoir pretty much stayed the same since the previous bleeding.

Why have both front brakes seized up on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee???
The brake pads were changed about 1 month ago, but until yesterday, the truck was driving fine. Now all at once, both front brakes have seized up and I'm trying to figure out why. It doesn't make sense that both calipers would fail at EXACTLY the same time. My father suggested that the master cylinder is bad, but I don't want to jump to conclusions...
Has anyone ever had this problem before? What should I check first? And if all else fails, how can I be positive that the master cylinder is bad?
The metal brake lines were recently changed and flushed by the dealer, and there is plenty of fluid in the master cylinder. Any and all opinions are very much appreciated!
Thank you in advance. Why have both front brakes seized up on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee???This happens alot. DOT 3 brake fluid absorbs moisture over time a corrosion ridge forms on the caliper bore and or piston. Water is heavier than brake fluid and falls to the lowest point in the system. When you push the caliper piston back to install the new thicker pads the piston seal is now riding in the area of corrosion. The seal can only flex so far to release. The brakes %26quot;sieze%26quot; because the piston is stuck in this area of corrosion instead of being free in the bore.. Crack the bleeder, if the piston presses back easy it is a brake hose, if it still wont press back it is a caliper problem. Why have both front brakes seized up on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee???that is pretty suspect. Check for any recalls on that. I had a 97 and got new rotors for free from a recall. Just trying to save you any money i can. Why have both front brakes seized up on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee???bleed them then change master cylinderWhy have both front brakes seized up on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee???Please add more to the definition of %26quot;siezed up%26quot;. I have had a similar problem in the past. When you apply the brakes, they seem to drag, heat up, and smell like burning. It took me a long time to figure out that the problem was the rubber hoses that go from the metal lines to the wheel cylinders. The lining deteriorates and debris from this acts like a one-way check valve. Fluid pressure that applies the brakes gets trapped in the cylinder and keeps the brakes on. Bleeding the brake lines doesn't help. When the bleeders are cracked open, fluid squirting out under pressure is an indication that this is the problem.
It is most likely not the master cylinder.

The brake disc and pads on my golf4?
I went for oil change today,at the service and the guy called me up an hour later to tell me that my brake pads and disc need changing,i must say i don't really know about brakes, but after talking 10 min,iv asked how much it would cost,he said additional 500,is that not too much guys?500 for changing front pads and rear? The brake disc and pads on my golf4?you can change the pads yourself for about $50 US (Maybe 25 or so in the UK). Not knowing labor charges, I had my daughters done here in the US for $150 and that included a new caliper assembly.
500 pounds is like $1000 in the US and that is way way too much.

Aluminum wheel has fused to brake rotor. How do we get it off?
Trying to change brakes on 86 Grande Prix. The front passenger wheel seems to be welded on to the rotor and we can't get it off. I read that aluminum will corrode when placed against steel, but knowing doesn't help get the wheel off. Does anyone know how to remove the wheel without destroying anything?Aluminum wheel has fused to brake rotor. How do we get it off?get underneath the car with a heavy hammer maybe small sledge hammer and beat it making sure to rotate the tire as you do it. also try to P.B blaster in a spray can. i have a dodge sport truck and had this same problem. just keep beating at it and eventually it will come off. after you get it apart put some anti-seize on any of the aluminium that may touch the rotor. hope this helps. or you can put a block of wood between the inside of the tire and the frame of the car, then start it and turn the wheel to use the power steering pump of your car as a press. once you have some pressure on the tire have someone hit the center of the tire to break it loose. do it in small steps. don't just reef on it. if this don't help you may email me goldwing_gurl@yahoo.comAluminum wheel has fused to brake rotor. How do we get it off?Sometimes you can give the edge of the tire a few kicks around the entire tire and it will pop off. But in really stubborn cases, I've taken a 7or 8 foot 2x4 and placed the end against the inside of the rim, then from the other side of the car, hit it firmly with a sledge hammer.... turning the wheel every couple of hits so you hit it around the whole wheel. If you turn the wheels a little, you can do it from just in front of the driver's front wheel. You might get a friend to help position the board while you hit it from the other side of the car. The reason for the long 2x4 is so YOU aren't under the car while it is jacked up, should it fall off the jack. And the wood won't gouge up the wheels. Hit as close to the rim as you can. After you get the wheel off, clean the back side up real well and get all the corrosion off. Then lightly coat the mounting surface of the wheel with Never Seize (it's a graphite laced grease type coating that will prevent rust and corrosion bonding the wheel to the brake rotor.Aluminum wheel has fused to brake rotor. How do we get it off?Been there, done that, on an '88 Suburban. I've tried PB, propane torch, sledge-hammer, nothing worked! Except...
loosen the lug nuts, leaving about 1/4%26quot; between the nut and rim,
with the vehicle off the jack, try turning the steering wheel left to right and back and forth, if that don't work, drive SLOWLY forward and backward a few times, while turning the wheel left to right. If THAT still don't work....back up as far as you can, put it in gear, step on the gas and hit the biggest pothole you can find! THAT is what finally worked for me. How do we get it off?p/b blaster is like wd40 only better.Aluminum wheel has fused to brake rotor. How do we get it off?If you have a stuck wheel, here's the easiest way to loosen it.
Loosen the lug nuts so they are maybe a thread loose. Get in the car and drive it a hundred feet or so down the street, doing the NASCAR tire warming move, zigzagging back and forth fairly hard. Drive back to the house doing the same thing. That should loosen it. It may take two times, but I've had 100% success doing it this way.

2003 Odyssey brake caliper bolts keep spinning. HELP!?
I just changed the front brake pads on a 2003 Honda Odyssey. The pads are in and car brakes just fine. My concern is the two bolts holding caliper in place. When tightening them, it just keeps spinning.. 3/4 of the caliper bolts do this. If I pull the bolt out, I can pull the bolt they go into out as well.. I don't see how it stays in place because they don't have threads on them once they go in. Please help! I just want the family to be safe. Thank you so much in advance.2003 Odyssey brake caliper bolts keep spinning. HELP!?Take it to a shop because the threads may be damaged and need to be retapped. It brakes fine cause they are currently staying in but could eventually work themselves out which is then dangerous
How do I change the Front discs on a Ford Laser KB 1984 Model?
I am not in any way shape or form mechanically minded however I have a friend who is willing to help me out changing the discs, we would just like to know the process of doing so as neither of us have ever attempted this before!
If anybody would be kind enough to give us a step by step guide, we would love you forever! We have tried googling but as we are newbies at this we aren't too sure what the names of the parts/various nuts are etc and it has gotten quite confusing!
I am having to replace them as my ex boyfriend replaced my brake pads around 3 months ago but one of them has now worn completely down for some reason, which in turn has worn down the disc. I am replacing both discs and pads just to be safe. Should this fix the problem or would this be caused by something else (caliper possibly??). Any advise would be VERY much appreciated! How do I change the Front discs on a Ford Laser KB 1984 Model? If brakes wore down in three months, you have a SERIOUS problem. No insult intended but two novices should not attempt this repair. Brakes are obviously an important component for safety and I would recommend you have a qualified shop look at the car.

"Shimmy" in Front right wheel?
Hi Gang, I have a 2005 Ford Taurus. There is a %26quot;shimmy%26quot; in the right front wheel. It only happens at a certain speed and the speed that it happens at changes depending on how far I have driven that day. The alignment is okay, the balance is okay, I have rotated the tires, and the brakes have been changed. Sadly, the front right tire and the front right brake go bad every 10,000 miles or so-so I have to keep changing them, but the tires and brakes on the rest of the car are fine. The car has never been wrecked. The mechanic that looked at it is stumped (although I don't think he's that great of a mechanic anyway.) Any suggestions?%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?I agree with %26quot;alekat%26quot; it sure sounds like the caliper is hanging up and causing pads to wear prematurely and also rotor warping which causes the %26quot;shimmy%26quot;, drive the car for 5min. or so and put your hand (touch) the center of the hub where the wheel bolts are if the right one is hotter it's your caliper, carefull not to burn your fingers, it can get very hot..%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?Hi, sorry this information wasn't included but the rotor and caliper have been changed. In addition, in response to other answers, the mechanic is certified, the tires have been balanced and rotated, one tire was completely worn through and had to be changed. Sadly, I had to change both front tires.
check to see if the lug bolts are tight.
check if there are deformities in the tire.
check to see if there is a collection of mud inside the wheel, it could cause a tire to shimmy?
If none of these help? get help.
hope this helps?%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel? You either have something worn out or something bent (like from hitting a curb). You need a new mechanic. This should be something obvious!%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?Have your rotors turned or replaced also check your caliper%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?Right front brake caliper piston, or slider, is hanging up and not releasing.
This can also cause the rotor to develop %26quot;hot spots%26quot; or warp from over heating - causing a wobble, when braking or not.
Do you notice a slight pull to the right on level roadway, (most roadway's slope slightly to the right for moisture drainage so it must be level)? If the tires are at correct pressure, alignment is correct, then suspect the caliper.%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?it could be a bad tire like the belt is broke, a bad ball joint or tie rod. it even could be a bad wheel bearing.

%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?sounds like seperated tires%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?Go to another shop and get a front end inspection. Obviously, where you are taking your Taurus too is shell shocked here. The alignment is not okay even though he or she claims it to be, neither are the brakes. I'd have the alignment, inner and outer tie rods, control arm bushings etc checked. Did your so called %26quot;mechanic%26quot; give you a printout of before and after measurements for the alignment? If so what were the camber, caster and toe readings for the front and back? Need way more info.%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel?get a new mechanic? better yet find a technician, make sure they are ASE certified.%26quot;Shimmy%26quot; in Front right wheel? Here are some things you can check.check to see if the lug bolts are tight.
