http://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_reHow and what do i need to replace my front brakes?A warning: brakes are safety-critical components and doing the work yourself alone for the first time is definitely a bad idea.Get someone with some specific hands-on experience to assist/guide you; next time you can do it alone.

Check a how-to video for your car if available or, alternatively, for a similar one. You shouldn't need special tools, just standard ones (pliers, a set of ring or open or socket wrenches, a C-clamp to press in the pistons) plus a set of new, preferably original brake pads, which is what you want to replace. Check also the rotors - if worn, thin or with deep grooves, replace them too (in pairs!).

Although bleeding is not required, I would suggest a thorough bleeding to renew most of the fluid - the pedal would be higher and firmer than before. How and what do i need to replace my front brakes? You will need 3/8%26quot; allen key, either socket or wrench to remove caliper bolts (2 of them per side). Remove caliper from rotor by prying off with pry bar or large screw driver , remove pads, push in caliper piston with a large c clamp or large channel lock pliers. If you are changing rotors they will either pull right off or you might have to hammer off if rusted on. Lubricate caliper bolts with synthetic brake grease so that the slide freely in and out of caliper bolt bore. Install pads then bolt caliper back on. Do one side at a time so you can look at a complete side if you get stuck. When finished and tires are on Do Not Move Vehicle until you press brake pedal a few times to push piston out to contact pad with rotor (hard pedal). How and what do i need to replace my front brakes?NO. you dont mess with brakes if you dont know what youre doing. this is a vital system of your car, and if something is done incorrectly, not only can you damage your car, but you can hurt yourself and others because of your faulty work. i highly recommend buying a chiltons or haynes repair manual from kragen or autozone and reading up on how to change your brake pads. also if your looking for this to be cheap, you might aswell look up on craigslist for a mechanic that can take it on as a side job, or just take it to a shop. if you dont have any of the tools or a discount on the parts, your gonna end up paying close to what youd be charged by a mechanic anyways. id say without looking at your car, id charge you about 60 to 80 bucks depending on whether u wanted the rotors replaced or resurfaced. also thats not even mentioning if you mess something up while doing this work.

your car isnt the newest either, and sometimes things can get picky and difficult on a car that old.
