How to bleed brakes on a 97 cavalier?

We just changed the front brakes and the brakes dont work. Parts guy said bleed them. We did-but while bleeding them he made me pump the brakes the whole time. Didnt work. Parts guy said push in, bleed, let off, etc for all the brakes. Worked a little. Can you tell me in gory detail how to bleed brakes for dummies? How to bleed brakes on a 97 cavalier?first thing you need to do is find out why the brakes don't work just changing the front brake pad shouldn't cause the brakes not to work.master cylinder.hose, line, valve or something else may be bad,I strongly suggest bring it to a shop to have checked most all repair shops check brakes for free and will give you an estimate for repair, but I will try to explain how to bleed your brakes, have someone pump brakes 5 to 10 times then hold brake peddle down starting at the right rear wheel open the bleeder fitting let fluid flow till there is no more air present then close it, have them pump again go to left rear next the right front then left front last.hope this helps, good luckHow to bleed brakes on a 97 cavalier?you have the abs system I understand that there is a way as long as your master cylinder is or hasn't gone bad you need to bleed the front passenger and the rear driver at the same time and than do the front driver side and back passenger side pump the brake 6-7 times before opening the bleeder valves hold the brake until all fluid is drained close pump and start all over until there is no air in the lines this will be shown when straight stream of fluid is coming out also keep checking the fluid in the master cylinder another thing to try would be to get a jar fill it with brake fluid get a hose stick it on the bleeders and the other end into the jar of fluid make sure the hose is in the fluid have someone pump the brake this helps to get the fluid back down to the brakes faster try this it worked for me
